Everything We Know About 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' Movie

Just a few hours after The Summer I Turned Pretty‚s series finale dropped, Amazon Prime Video announced that it had officially approved a feature-length film for the franchise. Jenny Han, the mind behind the original novels and the much-loved TV series, is slated to direct the upcoming The Summer I Turned Pretty movie, and write alongside Sarah Kucserka.

As fans of the original trilogy know, the recently concluded TV series offered a satisfying ending—but left out significant details surrounding the actual fates of the main cast of characters. The upcoming The Summer I Turned Pretty movie is expected to touch on the characters‘ futures, moving much further into their lives beyond young adulthood. 

The untitled film will serve as a true conclusion to the live-action life the narrative has taken on outside of the books. 

Riding the massive success of the TV show, many main characters are expected to return for the movie, though at this point, plot details are slim—all we know is that the film will pick up where The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 finale left off. Given the major love declarations made in the TV series finale, it’s likely the movie will center around the newly reunited Belly and Conrad, Steven and Taylor’s deepening relationship, and potentially Jeremiah and Denise’s blossoming romance—though if there’s one thing Han knows, it’s a major plot twist. 

The announcement was made on the red carpet of the series finale’s party in Paris, and stars Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, Jackie Chung, Rain Spencer, and Rachel Blanchard were present. 

Per Variety, Han said: “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due. I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
