This December, fans of the beloved Dune franchise will be able to take one more trip to Arrakis in Dune: Part Three, the epic finale to the record-breaking trilogy directed by Dennis Villeneuve. The first two films left viewers with extreme predicaments for the characters, so needless to say, fans are ready to see how this story ends. The film’s official Instagram revealed several character posters featuring some familiar faces and new ones.

The first two films were smashing successes at the box office, and this third installment will go head-to-head with Avengers: Doomsday. A teaser trailer finally dropped today, March 17, and we couldn’t be more excited, with fans on the edge of their seats and sharing their theories on social media about what could go down.

Below, see everything you need to know before the release of Dune: Part Three.

Dune: Part Three Cast

Timotheé Chalamet, Jessica Furgeson, and Zendaya are all confirmed to appear as Paul Atreides, Lady Jessica, and Chani. The first look images shared on the film’s official Instagram show a visibly corrupted Paul Atreides and a more hardened vision of Chani. Florence Pugh, Léa Seydoux, and Anya Taylor-Joy are confirmed to play the roles of Princess Irulan, Lady Margot, and Alia Atreides. A recent press release confirmed that the film will expand on these three characters, and their posters depict them as worn out from intense battle. Jason Mamoa returns as Hayt, Javier Bardem returns as Stilgar, and Robert Pattinson has confirmed his participation as the villain Scytale.

Dune: Part Three Plot

At the moment, plot details are few and far between. The last two films, based entirely on the first book, focused on Paul Atreides’s journey alongside his mother, Lady Jessica, on the perilous desert planet of Arrakis. Paul joined the Fremen people and fell in love with a warrior named Chani, as they fought together for freedom from the Harkonnen empire. In the end, Paul defeats the Harkonnens, launches a holy war against the Great Houses with his army, and takes Princess Irulan of House Corino as his bride.

The epic finale will be based on Frank Herbert’s 1969 book Dune: Messiah, the second book in the Dune series. Dennis Villeneuve commented in a press release that he wishes this final installment had its own identity separate from the first two films. “It was really a pair of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book. That’s done, and that’s finished. If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it’s not like a trilogy,“ he says to Vanity Fair.

Dune: Part Three Theatrical Release

Dune: Part Three will have its USA theatrical release on December 18th, 2026. As for streaming, it will be available on HBO Max early in 2027.
