Dear readers, if you were wondering what the new season of Shondaland’s hit series Bridgerton had in store, you’re in luck; its fifth season is currently in production. This upcoming season, to many fans‘ surprise, will follow the love story of middle daughter Francesca Bridgerton and her budding romance with Michaela. Fans on social media have expressed shock, considering many assumed this new season would focus on Eloise or Sophie, but showrunner Jess Brownell has confirmed that this season will add depth to later seasons. Regardless, we are looking forward to what the folks over at Shondaland are cooking up for us.

Bridgerton Season 5: Plot
In a slight detour from previous seasons, this story is based on Julia Quinn’s When He Was Wicked. The season will follow the middle daughter of the Bridgerton family, Francesca Stirling (Hannah Dodd), after being recently widowed and re-entering the marriage mart for business reasons. She is caught off guard when feelings develop for her late husband’s cousin, Michaela. The synopsis continues: „Fran’s complicated feelings will have her questioning whether to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner passions.“
For fans who were worried that Eloise would not get her deserved screen time, do not fret! Speaking to Cinemablend, Brownell has teased that Benedict will play a crucial role in both Eloise’s and Francesca’s stories. She also teased that Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) would be a key character in Eloise’s arc, leading into future seasons.
Bridgerton Season 5: Cast
Francesca and Michaela will be played by Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza, respectively. While new characters have yet to be announced, many favorites will return, such as Luke Newton (Colin), Claudia Jessie (Eloise), Luke Thompson (Benedict), Ruth Gemmell (Violet), Florence Hunt (Hyacinth), and Will Tilston (Gregory).
Adjoa Andoh will return as Lady Danbury, whose storyline ended in a question mark. Fortunately, Jess Brownell has confirmed that not only will she be present, but she will also be a key character.
Bridgerton Season 5: Release Date
A release date has yet to be confirmed for this fifth season, but fans are inferring that it will be in early 2027.
