Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., said he was back at home on Saturday and made a “full recovery” following a fall earlier in the week that left him with minor injuries and a badly cut-up face. A spokesperson for the senator said on Thursday that the fall happened during a morning walk and was a result of Fetterman’s ventricular fibrillation.

In a post to X on Saturday, Fetterman revealed that he had received 20 stitches at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and made a full recovery.

“20 stitches later and a full recovery, I’m back home with @giselefetterman and the kids,” Fetterman wrote. “I’m overwhelmed + profoundly grateful for all the well-wishes.” He extended his thanks to the team that “put me back together” at UPMC, adding, “See you back in DC.”

On Thursday morning, Fetterman reportedly became lightheaded before collapsing and hitting his face, sustaining minor injuries. In the statement released at the time, the senator joked, saying, “If you thought my face looked bad before, wait until you see it now!”

Fetterman’s history of medical incidents

Fetterman has had several health incidents in the last few years.

In 2022, during his Senate campaign, he suffered a stroke and doctors implanted a pacemaker and defibrillator due to his cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart’s muscles. The stroke left him with an auditory processing disorder, making it difficult for him to comprehend sound.

On Feb. 8, 2023, he was hospitalized after feeling lightheaded. However, this hospitalization was not related to his stroke, according to his office.

Then, on Feb. 16, 2023, he checked himself into Walter Reed Hospital for treatment regarding his clinical depression, something he said he has battled with his entire life. The hospital discharged him on March 31.
