The NBA season brings out the competitive—and stylish—side in everyone. From front-row courtside seats to buzzer-beater thrills, celebrities across industries are often spotted cheering on their favorite teams or simply soaking in the excitement of the game. But for fashion and lifestyle creator Emma Pritchard, the NBA season is about much more than just the spectacle. It’s also a chance to support her husband, Payton Pritchard of the Boston Celtics, from the stands.
Naturally, as a wellness enthusiast, Emma’s approach to game day goes far beyond picking a chic outfit and doing her makeup. From her pre-prep rituals to the final touches of glam, she shares an exclusive behind-the-scenes look with L’OFFICIEL of how she prepared for the Knicks vs. Celtics matchup at Madison Square Garden, including courtside moments and the whole game-day experience.
L’OFFICIEL: Can you walk us through your typical game-day routine? Are there any wellness, fitness, or self-care rituals you like to do before getting into glam?
EMMA PRITCHARD: When I’m home, my mornings always start with coffee with Payton and a walk with our dog, Cleo. I like to fit in a Pilates workout before getting into glam. When we’re traveling, the routine is similar. Coffee with Payton first, then I’ll try to find a local Pilates studio nearby and a good breakfast spot, or enjoy the hotel breakfast before getting ready.
L’O: Do you have any go-to spots when you’re in New York? Or something you’re looking forward to doing or seeing for the first time while you’re here this weekend?
EP: Whenever I’m in New York, I love starting my day with an early morning Forma Pilates class, followed by coffee at Sellini or Ludlow Coffee. I always stop by Happier Grocery for food, do some in-store shopping at places we don’t have in Boston, and make time to see my New York friends.
L’O: Do you have any pre-game traditions or good-luck rituals—either for yourself or shared with Payton?
EP: Our main tradition is getting coffee together before Payton heads out for shoot around and pre-game! — We’ve always done that. When we’re in New York, we also love to have a date night at one of our favorite spots, like Cipriani or Hillstone.
L’O: Aside from cheering your husband on, what’s your favorite part about watching his games? Any interesting people you’ve met along the way?
EP: The energy and atmosphere of the Celtics organization is incredible — it’s always so high-energy and exciting. This season feels extra special because it’s Payton’s first year as a starter, and it’s been amazing to watch him step into that role. I also love the Celtics‘ wives’ group. We all come from different backgrounds and careers, and everyone is so supportive of one another. I’ve learned so much from these women.
L’O: Are you working with a stylist, makeup artist, and/or hairstylist today? If so, do you usually collaborate with a glam team for game days, or do you like to reserve that for special occasions?
EP: For playoffs, I love working with a glam team — it makes it feel extra fun and celebratory! But during the regular season, I usually do my own glam so I can film my GRWMs for my audience. Those “get ready with me for game day” videos are some of my followers’ favorites to watch, and my favorite to film
L’O: What are your go-to skincare essentials before a game or any regular night out? Do you bring them along even when someone else is doing your glam?
EP: I swear by the InnBeauty Project Recharge Gel Cream under my makeup—it keeps my skin hydrated without breaking me out. I also always have a face mist in my bag because the arena lights can make my skin look dry. I love the Clearstem Skin Spray All Day and the Caudalie Beauty Elixir. A little hot tip: I don’t use much powder because those mists help my skin stay perfectly glowy.
L’O: How about your makeup and hair—any holy-grail products or brands you’ve been especially loving lately?
EP: For makeup, I’ve been loving the Makeup Forever HD Hydra Glow Skin Foundation and the Forever Walnut lip liner. Mary Phillips’ lip products are also excellent, and I’ve been obsessed with the Rhode blush in Toasted Teddy. For brows, I use the Skin by Ella gel. For hair, the Living Proof Texturizing Spray is a staple, and I love the Kerastase 8-Hour Magic Serum—it makes my hair so soft after using heat tools. The Crown Affair Leave-In Conditioner is another must-have.
L’O: How do you usually choose your outfit for game day? Do you plan in advance or go with your mood that day?
EP: It really depends on the game. If we’re traveling, I plan ahead, but for home games, I usually go with the flow. The only rule is that I never pick out an outfit without my sister, Maggie. She’s always part of the process.
L’O: Are there any designers or brands you find yourself gravitating toward most often lately—either for comfort or style?
EP: Lately, I’ve been reaching for pieces from The Row, especially their heels and bags. Chanel always has the perfect green for game-day bags, which is so fun to incorporate into my look. I love Re/Done jeans and Frame leather jackets, too—they are the perfect elevated basics.
L’O: How does your personal style reflect your life as part of the NBA world? Has being part of that environment influenced how you dress, at least for game days like today?
EP: I really try to stay true to my own style – effortless and classic. Being part of the NBA world hasn’t changed that much, but I’ll occasionally step out of my comfort zone with custom pieces from MVPbae.
L’O: Beyond beauty and fashion, are there any must-have items you always bring with you to games?
EP: Always. I carry a Coastal Caviar keychain made for all the WAGs, a makeup mirror, a mini hairbrush, extra hair ties and clips, and True Lemon or True Lime packs for my drinks. For home games, I also bring my sparkly cup with my name and Payton’s number on it.
L’O: You’ve been creating content for a little over seven years now. How has your prep routine or personal style evolved in that time?
EP: Over time, I’ve really learned that less is more, both with makeup and my overall style. I used to go full glam and follow what I was seeing online, but I realized that wasn’t really me. Now I focus on what feels effortless and true to my personal taste.
L’O: What are you most excited about as you cheer on Payton this NBA season?
EP: This season is so exciting because of Payton’s bigger role on the team. It’s been so special to watch him live out his dreams, and I could not be more excited to see what this new chapter brings for him and the team. Go Celtics!!
L’O: After the game, how do you usually unwind or reset from all the energy of the night?
EP: After games, I love to take a long, hot shower, drink a big ice water, and take a Lemme Sleep – it’s my way of winding down and resetting after all the excitement. My perfect nighttime routine!
L’O: Could you walk us through the details of your skin prep, makeup, and outfit for today’s game?
EP: I didn’t do too much skin prep today, other than my daily moisturizer, like I talked about before. I did a light glam. I used my go-to foundation by Makeup Forever and a few new products I’ve been excited to try out, like Kosas’s eye brightener and Laura Mercier’s caviar eye pencil in forbidden rose! For the outfit, I wanted to be comfortable and confident. I wore a gorgeous pair of Alice and Olivia low-rise leather pants with a basic Tank Air tank and my new Frame leather bomber. To tie in some team spirit, I paired it with a Celtics baseball hat and a green Peggy bag from The Row! I also had to wear The Row’s flip-flop heels because I got a major blister from all the walking I did today.
L’O: Looking back on this particular Knicks vs. Celtics game, what were some of your favorite moments or highlights?
EP: Although we lost, it was nice to be back in New York! The games are always super high energy, which makes you feel like you’re going to jump out of your seat!
