Red Carpet Looks at the 2025 Venice Film Festival Fused Visual Drama With Timeless Style

When it comes to premier red carpet events, the Met Gala and the Academy Awards ceremony instantly come to mind, but at some of the entertainment industry’s leading annual film events, our favorite stars bring both top-tier performances on the silver screen and legendary style moments. Among those high-profile film events is the Venice International Film Festival, which is celebrating its 82nd edition in 2025. 

This year, cinephiles across the world are eagerly awaiting the premiere of films like Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Noah Baumbach’s latest project Jay Kelly, and Yórgos Lánthimos‘ Bugonia, among others. On opening night, Francis Ford Coppola made history as he bestowed fellow director-screenwriter Werner Herzog the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement award, which is among the highest honors for filmmakers. 

Of course, the red carpet isn’t the only place stars stun. Arrival outfits that already have the Internet abuzz range from Amal Clooney’s dreamy butter yellow Balmain dress to Emma Stone’s sleek, all-black Louis Vuitton look—complete with a coppery, waved pixie cut. Plus, Julia Roberts landed in Venice clad in a cozy, black and white cardigan emblazoned with acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino’s face. Greta Gerwig, Riley Keough, Laura Dern, and Alicia Silverstone have also arrived, ready to celebrate both film and fashion, as they donned memorable looks of their own. 

On the first night of the festival, which runs from Aug. 27 to Sept. 6, industry icons like Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett already made major style statements on the carpet. In simple, yet effortlessly chic ensembles, the actors exuded timeless elegance. Eagle-eyed fashion fanatics also noticed that Blanchett’s red carpet look seemed oddly familiar—which is because it is. For the 2025 Venice Film Festival red carpet premiere of „La Grazia,“ the Carol actor wore a black Armani Privé gown that she also sported at the 2022 SAG Awards, because nothing is more chic than sustainability—and knowing that a good look can and should be worn twice. In another major fashion moment, Alba Rohrwacher sported Jonathan Anderson’s first couture gown for Dior on Aug. 28. 

Mother and daughter duo Heidi Klum and Leni Klum also received a warm welcome as they walked the carpet together in sheer dresses that brought plenty of glamorous drama.
