After five years of speculation and silence surrounding the future of A Court of Thorns and Roses, bestselling fantasy author Sarah J. Maas confirmed that two new books in the beloved series are officially on the way.
Maas appeared on the March 4 episode of the wildly popular podcast Call Her Daddy, hosted by Alex Cooper, where she discussed the enduring impact of her romantasy universe and what readers can expect next. The interview quickly captured the attention of the book community, accumulating almost one million views in less than 24 hours as fans rushed to hear the long-awaited update.
During the conversation, Maas revealed that two installments from the A Court of Thorns and Roses universe will arrive within the next year. The first is set to release on October 27, followed by a second on January 12, marking the first major expansion of the series since readers last returned to Prythian.
But according to Maas, the upcoming books aren’t meant to function as a traditional continuation of the series. Instead, they will operate as two parts of one much larger narrative.
“It’s meant to be read ideally as one massive, massive story as opposed to like in a trilogy,” Maas explained during the podcast. “It’s not a trilogy. Arcs aren’t wrapped up. It’s like if you take my book and expand all of part one, all of part two, all parts—it would be huge like that.”
She added that the structure came naturally as the story developed. “I just decided, I’ve never told a story that way. This is how it wants to come out,” Maas said, teasing what she described as a “really, really, really big” story finally ready to be shared.
Since the first ACOTAR novel debuted in 2015, the series has grown into a cultural phenomenon, helping propel the romantasy genre into the mainstream and cultivating a fiercely loyal fanbase. Over the past five years, readers have continued to theorize about lingering plotlines, character arcs, and where Maas might take the story next.
Now, with two new books officially on the horizon, the return to Prythian is finally within reach—and for fans who have been waiting years for the next chapter, the announcement signals that the world of A Court of Thorns and Roses is far from finished.
