After a long, well-lived life, French actress, singer, and model Brigitte Bardot has passed away at her home in St. Tropez.
“The Brigitte Bardot Foundation pays tribute to the memory of an exceptional woman who gave everything and gave up everything for a world more respectful of animals,” the actress’s foundation said in a statement, per CNN. “Her legacy lives on through the actions and struggles the Foundation continues with the same passion and the same fidelity to her ideals.”
In her youth, the actress embodied youthful vigor and freedom, to be sure, and gave way to many of the era’s most prevailing fashion, beauty, and travel trends.
As one of the first true celebrities of the modern era, Bardot made waves with her carefree lifestyle and inspired women of the ’60s to pursue love affairs and engage in bold fashion moments of their own.
Though Bardot is often considered one of French cinema’s most beloved stars, her later years gave way to controversy—including disparaging statements on race, the #MeToo movement, and immigration—that has darkened her legacy.
Looking back on Bardot’s life on the silver screen, L’OFFICIEL dives into all of the actress’s best style and beauty moments from early on in her career.
