In New York City, pools are a hot—and precious—commodity.
Summer days reign humid, while the prevalence of concrete renders any chances of cooling off virtually nonexistent. And since we can’t always hightail it off to the Hamptons in search of an ocean breeze, city dwellers have their own urban oasis: rooftop pools. High above all things hustle and bustle are elevated with poolside bars and cabana services. Merging the relaxation of a spa with swanky Succession-esque views, these are the premier places to see and be seen as summer (sadly) comes to a close.
So put on your favorite swim attire and head to the chicest rooftop pools in New York City by reading along on L’OFFICIEL for our absolute favorite spots to float among the skyscrapers.
1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge
1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is a love letter to the Brooklyn waterfront. Designed by NYC native artists and inspired by nature, this relaxing space merges urban brickwork with ample greenery. Observe the sprawling cityscape from an L-shaped pool rooftop that feels like it’s one with the skyline. The hotel’s coveted limestone deck is reserved exclusively for guests, making this the perfect excuse for a staycation.
The Beach at Downtown Dream
Pools are great, but for an authentic summertime experience, sometimes we want the feel of sand on our toes. For those missing the beach, visit the rooftop pool at the Dream Downtown. Aptly dubbed “The Beach,” the 5,000-square-foot space is filled with 800 square feet of imported sand. A Tao Group concept, order from a full menu of elevated cocktails and gourmet Pan-Latin eats. You don’t need to be a hotel guest either—book a day pass to reserve pool access and a chaise lounge.
The Dominick Hotel
Resort-style and for all the right reasons, this pool offers panoramic views of Manhattan and the Hudson on Terrace 7 for a quiet, upscale oasis with loungers meant to lure you back for more. Not to mention, their El Ta’Lou poolside menu serves island-inspired bites that can’t be beat. Every attendee is in for a treat.
Dumbo House
Dumbo House is a private members’ club by SoHo House—the first of its kind in Brooklyn. Head up to their panoramic rooftop terrace for unparalleled views of the Manhattan skyline. Inspired by the late Mexican architect Luis Barragán, its decor fuses tropical components with a nostalgic flair. Phones aren’t allowed, lending itself to maximum relaxation. If you ask us, the rooftop pool alone justifies the cost of membership.
The Empire Hotel
If you watched the original Gossip Girl, you’re likely familiar with The Empire Hotel. The historic establishment opened its doors in 1923, so expect art deco glamor on every floor— including the rooftop. Uptown pools are hard to come by, but just one block from Central Park on the Upper West Side is easily one of Manhattan’s best. Apart from its scenic views, guests can enjoy a poolside bar and fully equipped cabanas, complete with their own ceiling fans, mini-fridges, and TVs.
Equinox Hotel
Luxury fitness company Equinox Group extended a wellness-based focus to its first-ever hotel in Hudson Yards. Although the space features an indoor saltwater pool, it is its Hudson River-facing rooftop pool that makes for the ultimate summer sanctuary. Offering spa-like features such as chilled eucalyptus towels, expect to return from the terrace rejuvenated. Book a personal cabana to enjoy a complimentary fruit plate and bottle of sparkling wine. Should you feel compelled to visit in the winter, the pool will be heated to a pleasant 84 degrees.
Gansevoort Meatpacking
Head over to the Gansevoort Hotel in the heart of NYC’s Meatpacking District for breathtaking Manhattan skyline views. The modern retreat features a 45-foot pool with a transparent garage door, allowing for both indoor and outdoor swimming. Guests can enjoy one (or all three) of their signature popsicle flavors: rosé, orange Pinot Gris, and sangria.
ModernHaus SoHo
Miami meets New York at ModernHaus SoHo, formerly the James Hotel. Head up to the 18th floor for a cosmopolitan chic retreat and panoramic views of the Hudson. Adjacent to Jimmy, ModernHaus’ rooftop lounge, its pool is easily one of the city’s most sought-after summer locations.
Rockaway Hotel
Located just outside the city at Rockaway Beach, Rockaway Hotel offers a slice of serenity set to redefine sunshine. At a mere block away from Rockaway Beach, this experience includes day passes, cabanas, and, you guessed it, poolside spa services. From reflexology to scalp drizzles to our personal favorite, aftersun skin revival, these must-trys redefine poolside perfection.
TWA Hotel
By and far the most unique of NYC’s rooftop poolside scene, TWA Hotel’s infinity pool overlooks JFK Airport’s runway, inspired by Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France; watch flights take off and land in paradise (and if it’s winter, in the pool-cuzzi). At eye level, sitting atop the 10,000-square-foot observation deck, immerse yourself up to 365 days a year.
Virgin Hotels New York City
“The Pool Club”—the rooftop pool at the Virgin Hotels New York City—is the place to be this summer. Located just one floor up from Everdene, the hotel’s ritzy cocktail lounge, it is a resort oasis featuring upscale Americana decor. Sit back in a classically chic striped lounger while taking in unobstructed views of the Empire State Building. Serving poolside food and drinks from morning through night, the space is ideal for a full day of R & R.
